Julia’s House, Dorset's only hospice dedicated to children with life-limiting conditions, was selected as IRIS Accounting & Business Solutions’ official charity partner for 2012 following a vote amongst all their employees who wanted to choose a charity partner they felt strongly about and whose work is close to many of our hearts.
Over the next twelve months, IRIS Accounting & Business Solutions will be working closely with Julia’s House with the aim to raise as much money as possible for the charity through a wide variety of fundraising events and sporting challenges.
Paul Sparkes, Product Director, IRIS Accounting & Business Solutions, explains: “We have many not-for-profit clients and understand the pressures currently facing UK charities. We’re very pleased to be helping such a worthwhile cause as Julia’s House.”
Paul adds: “It was very clear to us when meeting the Julia’s House team that the support they provide to both children and young people with life-threatening conditions, and to their families, is absolutely invaluable. That’s why everyone at IRIS Accounting & Business Solutions is delighted to support Julia’s House as our official charity partner for 2012 – and we hope to have lots of fun raising valuable funds at the same time!”
Caroline Gogan, Corporate Fundraiser , Julia’s House says: “Julia’s House are absolutely delighted that IRIS Accounting & Business Solutions are supporting Julia’s House. Like many charities, Julia’s House is facing an uphill struggle when it comes to fundraising. In the current economic climate, while people are still giving, they are giving less, making every penny more precious. It was wonderful to see the team kick starting their fundraising and taking part in our Superhero Night Walk. We look forward to a fun year ahead supporting the team at IRIS Accounting & Business Solutions.”
Julia’s House is Dorset’s hospice dedicated to children with life-limiting conditions. The majority of the children that it cares for are unlikely to live into adulthood (defined as beyond the age of 18). The children’s hospice complements the work of the Julia’s House Community Team, which consists of 69 nurses and carers who travel the county, providing life-changing support for families in their own homes.
Julia’s House looks after the whole family, not just the sick child. It organises social activities and provides support for parents, brothers and sisters.
It will cost around £2.7m to run Julia’s House in 2012, yet the charity receives less than 10 percent of its total annual funding from the government. The rest of the charity’s essential income is raised through the generosity of the Dorset community, corporate partners and charitable foundations.
In 2011, the charity cared for more than 100 children, providing 23,073.82 hours of care for Dorset’s children comprising 12,207 in the hospice, with 10,865 hours being offered in the community.
